Are You Closer or Farther From Retirement?
Are You Closer or Farther From Retirement?
We are creatures that are conditioned to accept what our peers, our company, the government and the rest of society tells us is the norm. All of my life, I have been given to understand that I could expect to ‘retire’ when I will be 65 years old. Why is that age so magical? If I want to , why can’t I work longer? If I want to quit working every day when I’m 50 or 53, why shouldn’t I be able to do that?
Most people think of retirement in financial terms and they know that the Social Security system that they have been forced to contribute to all of their working lives doesn’t pay off until age 62 at the earliest and you cannot get your full retirement amount until you are age 65 or 66 or later, depending on your birthday.
If you are financially able to quit working every day at some earlier point in your life, is there any reason why you cannot do so? No, of course not! With out longevity improving each year, some of us will likely be physically able to work well into our 70′s, if we want. That is the key. We should be able to do as we wish. Many people like to scale back just a little after reaching 55 or 60, even though they really don’t want to quit working every day. They just want to quit ‘having to work every day’.
Thanks to the new opportunities that have been brought to us thanks to the Internet, it can be a relatively simple matter to establish some passive streams of income to provide us with the cashflow needed to think more independently. This is called supplemental retirement income and it augments income that you have from other sources. That independence allows us to dream about the future a little and think about the lifestyle that we would like to establish for ourselves and our family.
Now, I’ve been poor and I’ve been rich and let me tell you, it is much easier to plan for the future when your not concerned with your immediate future. It allows you to think about the future in something other than financial terms. What would you like to be doing in 5 years? Where would you like to live? What would you daily planner have in it if you could fill it in today? Think about it.
Turning your passions into income is the most fun! By the time you are part of the ‘over 50′ crowd, you have already amassed everything it takes to be successful for the future! Now, on the Internet, you can turn your life’s experiences and you passions into profit in a fun and exciting way! Think about the tings that you know so much about – from your career, raising a family, your volunteer activities, sports, hobbies, etc. Surely there is something that lies near and dear to your heart!
You already possess information about a topic that would likely be interesting to others. In fact, there are probably hundreds or thousands of people searching the Internet every day, looking for information that lies safely between your ears! All that you need to do is to find a way to share that knowledge and you can earn a nice stream of income in the process. Think about it!
