Retirement and Helping Others Find Their Way
Retirement and Helping Others Find Their Way
How does it really feel when you reach sixty-two and are the “age of being able to retire”? Realizing that I am one of the “baby boomers” and have just reached that landmark in my life, wow… what a jolt to the system.
I grew up in a very small town in Illinois and am from a very middle class set of parents. Well, the facts being also from a dysfunctional set of alcoholics. Now, that is a combination, no money and dysfunction as well. But, the good news is that at a very young age, I decided to go to school and rise above the circumstances.
Have you ever asked yourself, “What makes one person stay in the same old negative circumstances and another person raise the challenges?” In my case, it seems that there were so many happenings that just allowed the doors to open and stay that way. Does that mean that I never had difficulties? Certainly not, but it does mean that I have been blessed and grew with persistence and just plain old “keeping on”.
Just a brief recap of the forty-four years of a registered nurse helping people and then becoming this entrepreneur being interested in the Internet. A lot of what I do now is helping people in a different way. Just helping people with hope and getting out of the ruts of their old lifestyle and giving them hope for the future is what drives me now. As I said at the very beginning of this, I just crossed the threshold of being able to retire but stay very active in my Internet consulting.
As you are probably aware, the statistics show that “baby boomers” are retiring at an all time rate and we are not ready to sit in the rocker and just watch the sun set. For the most part, many do not have the means to retire even if they wanted to just do nothing. Why? Well, mostly because of finances, circumstances, and just sometimes the lack of planning. But mostly, because life has gone too fast and there has many times been a problem with just keeping up with the day to day existence. And, now here it is… time to retire for so many and what is the answer?
Is it going into a new profession? Going to school? Living on a meager existence from the Social Security? Living in a less then adequate lifestyle? Sounds pretty negative but so much is so true. But, then if you decide to just stay home and be a home based business entrepreneur, how do you get started and how long will it take to make an income? Not only that, but what will it take to start and how much will it cost? With the proliferation of opportunities, how do you weed thru all the choices? How do you know what is legitimate? How do you know what to do? How do you know what is right for you?
Are there any magical answers? If the answers were so easy at this stage of life, they would probably have been at the earlier stage as well. But, guess what, here is the real “secret” to any of these questions… finding the truth within you.
I often think about the people that were in the 911 that were in their JOBs just because they were existing and not being there because of want but of need. So, when I think about how to enjoy the years of retirement that I now do deserve. But also how to help my fellow human beings live a better life and find their true essence, then I feel so good about having spent the time to learn this path that I have taken. Helping people learn not only who they are but also helping them be successful in balancing their lives with work and their families.
