Retirement From Working To Live
Retirement From Working To Live
For a lot of us, retirement from working to live occurs at the point where we decide that what has been our main occupation no longer satisfies our needs. Or, in simple terms, we are fed up with the constant requirement to work just to feed, cloth, or to provide. We may have found that what we thought was an exciting career or job has become a burden because it forces us to do something that we no longer want to do.
This point in life occurs when we realize that we are not doing what we want to do, or we need to refocus our life to living to work. Sound confusing? It isn’t really. For some of us, we have been leading a life of routine, a work life that sees us going through the motions because that is what we have to do, or what is expected. It often means acting like a robot each day we adopt the same behaviors, dress in our usual work garb, drive the same road, do the same kind of work, and emotionally wish for the work week to end.
Now that you have reached this position in life, the question is, what do you really want to do? You have in fact retired from work due in part to your desire to do something more challenging, or rewarding. Your mind wanders at your daily work to find you engaged in other activities.
So, are you in a position to make a change? Ask yourself whether you can financially afford to just quit, or can you begin to turn your untapped energy into launching a new career? Some people are able to channel their energy into new beginnings by expanding their favorite hobby to generate part-time income. Others find that they have creative juices that lead then to write be it novels, books, or scripts for theatre or potential movies.
Do what you have a passion to do, and you’ll find that your spirit is excited; you can’t wait to get up in the morning to delve right in. If you think you don’t have the time because of your current demands, there are options. It really depends on whether you have a burning desire to create what you want, and not what other people have expected you to do for so long. You have the time, you can find the time, but do you really have the desire to do what it takes?
So often, I hear people tell me that they would do something different, or start to build a part-time income stream, but they don’t have the time. Rubbish. Take a hard look at how you spend your time now. What activities do you allow that rob you of time? Is it wasting time watching T.V.; spending available time dreaming but not doing? One of the first tasks is to decide what you want; then set a goal; then decide upon action steps to take; and then start. Don’t just dream about what you want-start taking one step at a time.
You have a choice. Start living to do what you want and retire from working to live.
