Three Reasons to Consider a Consulting Business as Part of Your Retirement Plans

So you want to retire, but the dollars just don’t add up each month for the lifestyle you were expecting? Why not consider adding a part-time consulting business to your plans? Here are three reasons why:

Working keeps you looking, feeling and acting younger. You’re not ready for the rocking chair yet, are you? Your life is different from you parents, and your retirement will be also. Keep your mind active by using your expertise to help others while you make some money for your retirement budget. You can teach what you know, and I’ll bet you still have some things to learn. Use your life experience to help someone else.

You can work your own schedule. After years of working nine to five and being expected to work late, you can now plan out your weeks and work your consulting business into YOUR schedule. Work half days, or just one or two days each week. Now that you are the boss you can come and go as you please. Take advantage of this new freedom, and enjoy your life.

Increase your profits with tax benefits that are not available to you if you work as an employee. Out of pocket costs such as your cell phone, office supplies and even certain automobile expenses can reduce your taxable income. Be sure to track these expenses, as well as your income and tax time will be a breeze. Or, consider hiring a bookkeeper to help you with this task if you hate doing it yourself (and you can deduct this expense as well).

Look at your retirement as a new chapter in your life. You still should continue to push yourself to learn as much as you can in order to experience personal growth and development. You have a lot more years ahead of you than your parents did, so be sure to use them wisely. Learn, give back and experience all that life has to offer. You’re in the prime of your life!
